Ground Face Block are produced using standard CMU shapes and sizes, so virtually any smooth face block or shape can be made into a ground face unit. They can be used by themselves or as an accent band to one of the many different textures available. Ground face CMU’S are durable, mold and fire resistant and due to their high thermal mass, energy efficient.
The smooth finish of these block are ideal where a reduced maintenance surface is desired. Ground face CMU are most suited for interior applications or high visibility areas such as the entrance to a building.
The ground face is achieved using a special grinder with a series of diamond heads that removes a fraction of an inch. Removing the smooth exterior face of the CMU in this way creates a very smooth surface, exposing the color and aggregate used in the mix design. Many times a coating is applied to the Ground Face CMU that enhances the color and aggregates that have been revealed.
